Young Drummer: Jason comes from a musical family and started playing drums when he was 12 years old. But he only began singing two years ago and had sung on stage just five times before going on Idol.
Praise Pod: After Jason performed Hallelujah in Semifinals Week 3, Jeff Buckley's version of the Leonard Cohen song shot to the top of the iTunes download chart. Jason's own version made it into the Top 100.
Get Flunk-y: Jason has admitted that he failed his minor in music at Texas A&M Univeristy last year. His major was construction science, before he dropped out to go on Idol.
Background: Jason's parents moved from Columbia to Texas. His father has a business building swimming pools.
High School Musical: He played drums in a Dallas-area band called Keeping Lions when he was in high school.
MTV appearance: In 2006, Jason had a cameo on Cheyenne, an MTV reality show following the singing career of Texas teen Cheyenne Kimball.
Embarrassing Moment: Jason's most embarrassing moment was when one of his dreads fell out at the dinner table during a date.
Charity: Jason is very active in the his church's charity work. He has been to work on project in Russia twice, and he was scheduled to go and help out at an orphanage in Honduras, but had to cancel the trip to go on Idol.
Lock 'n' Roll: Jason's mother put in his trademark dreadlocks three years ago and he hasn't cut his hair in five years.
Family Guy: Jasons is very close to his family. He and his brother were roommates at Texas A&M University before he went on Idol and the singer wrote a part in a song especially so that his 12-year-old sister could perform with him in a local battle of the bands.
Choir Boy: Before he went on Idol, Jason sang with the choir of Lake Pointe Church.
All By Myself: When Jason started out singing while he was at college he used to go to the park on his own to practice because he was embarrassed to perform in front of his friends.
