We got a double whammy of 16 & Pregnant tonight, and along with it came a double dose of reality and drama.
In episode one, we met Courtney and her boyfriend Scott (no, not THAT Kourtney and Scott, guys) who, as far as teen mom couples are concerned, are actually in a pretty good place. Scott has a well-paying job and the couple lives civilly together along with their son in his two bedroom apartment. But what was weird was how detached Scott got to his baby by the end of the episode, saying that he didn’t want to change more than 4 diapers per week and insisting that his son learn “independence” even though he’s just an infant. He basically refused to hold the baby and said that that was the mother’s job. Whattt?!
Never mind that, but there was also the part about how Scott wanted them to start having sex again, despite Courtney’s strong stance on abstinence. He even said that if it wasn’t for baby Dayton, he probably would’ve left Courtney by now and gone on to another girl who was willing to put out. Rude. Hey, at least he eventually was okay with the fact that the baby had cleft lip and cleft palate, I guess?
Next, in the finale, we met Savannah, who clearly had a lot going on herself. Aside from the fact that she’s pregnant and that her ex-boyfriend, Stone, would rather pick up girls than spend time with her, there was also the whole crazy mom element. Her mother is an addict, and in one of the last scenes Savannah even had to call the police on her own mother because she didn’t trust her with her younger brother, Ben. Oy. These kids grow up so fast and not in the good way.
