Most award show winners are not super surprising. Modern Family and Mad Men take home ton of Emmys every year, right? Not so fast! The Emmys 2013 had some very interesting wins.

The first award of the night was for supporting actress in a comedy series. Major faves like Jane Lynch for Glee and Sofia Vergara for Modern Family were nominated, but in a big surprise, Merritt Wever of Nurse Jackie took home the award. She also had one of the best and funniest speeches of the night—she just appeared and said tearfully, "I gotta go."

Next up, for best supporting actor in a comedy series, Tony Hale beat out Bill Hader of Saturday Night Live and Ty Burrell of Modern Family for his role on Veep. His speech was very sweet, but he followed it up with a hilarious turn supporting co-star Julia Louis Dreyfus when she won in a mimicry of his role on Veep.
