OK!: You’re having a huge summer! How has it been to watch “Shower” blow up?

Becky G: Right now my life is doing a 180. Everything is changing. I’m traveling a lot more, getting to meet a lot more fans. I think the fans are where I'm noticing it the most. I was just in San Francisco doing something with a radio station, and they were only expecting about 400 people to come for a meet and greet, and over 1,500 people showed up. We were not prepared, security wise or anything! It was so overwhelming to see. Wow! It's amazing what one song can do, and you as an artist see what your music can do. The song is bringing so many people together. That’s what is really eye-opening for me.

OK!: You’ve said you wrote the song about somebody specific. Does that person know it’s about them?

BG: The people I wrote “Shower” about, yeah, they have an idea!

OK!: Have you heard from them, or anyone else you’ve written about?

BG: No. I like to do it in a way that's nonchalant, not super obvious. Music is how I express myself. I’m not trying to put anybody on blast or anything! But I think they have an idea.

OK! News: See why production has shut down on The Big Bang Theory.

OK!: It’s a happy song, so it’s not the worst! Can you tell me about the video? Where did you get the idea?

BG: That was a different kind of music video for me, just in that all my past videos have showed my roots, where I come from, and my family is in them. But "Shower" is so different because it shows me in a different light. Seeing me hanging with my friends and singing about love—it's kind of a stepping stone for me. At least that’s how I looked at it. And that's why we loved the treatment, and the director who came up with the treatment. It's like, Okay, this is still age-appropriate, but it’s putting me in a different light. My fans can see me grow up. And definitely, all my friends are in there! There are some cameos in their, some of my labelmates are in there. It was just a good time.

OK! What do you sing in the shower? Do you belt out?

BG: It’s always different, but one of my go-tos is "Weak" by SWV, and "Waterfalls" by TLC. That’s taking it back a little bit.

OK!: "Shower" has become a competitor for song of the summer. What do you think about the other big songs, like Iggy Azalea's "Fancy?"

BG: For people to even consider “Shower” as one of the songs of the summer, it’s just like, wow. I honestly can’t believe it. I just make music because I love it. But to know that there’s other people in the world who are connecting to it, and love it as much as I do, it’s such an incredible feeling. There are so many other great songs of the summer. You’ve got "Fancy," and another one of my favorites is "Am I Wrong," by Nico and Vinz. It’s such a powerful song. I feel like we’re in a really great place in music right now. Everyone is just doing what they want to do as artists instead of thinking about fitting into this box, instead of being the product of a machine.

OK!: You do a lot of collaborations, and so does Iggy. Do you think you guys would ever work together? And who else would you love to collaborate with?

BG: Oh, it would be awesome if me and Iggy got to do something together! I absolutely love her, I think she is so unique as an artist. Also, other artists I’d love to collaborate with—my top three are Bruno Mars, Katy Perry, and Shakira. Just because they’re all really involved with the creative process. They really enjoy what they do.

OK!: What’s next for you?

BG: Right now I am traveling a lot, doing lots of radio stuff. "Shower" has been doing really good, especially on iTunes. I am so thankful for that. I am finishing up the album. It will be out around October. Around that time, I will also be on tour with Katy Perry, which I can’t even believe is happening. Two CoverGirls on one stage, that’s going to be pretty awesome!

OK! How would you describe the sound of the album? Are there any surprises as far as collaborations?

BG: The album is still in the urban pop range. I'm a rapper-singer, or singer-rapper—it’s not one before the other. I do both. I grew up listening to all different kinds of music. It’s definitely influenced by a lot of different textures of music. You’ve got some songs that sound a little Latin, some songs that are a little old-school feeling, some that are new school. I have fun when I’m making music, and I want people to have fun when they listen to it. I’m all about telling stories. I like people to picture the music video in their head when they’re just listening to the song. It's a fun album. There’s not going to be one song where you’re like, ehh, skip.
