Have some crazy siblings? Then Jen Lancaster’s fun, snarky new book Twisted Sisters is for you. It’s the story of a very ambitious, polished, pulled-together psychologist named Reagan who can accomplish all the things she aims for, but will never get as much of her family’s attention and love as her charming little sister, Geri.

The book is layered with all of those indignities of family—the mother who still scolds you like you’re a child, the nieces and nephews you can’t relate to, and the siblings you’ve been competing with since you exited the womb. Whether you’ve been the pretty one or the smart one, the rebel or the straight-A student, the black sheep or the bird who wouldn’t leave the nest, you’ll see yourself among the siblings. It is always a relief to read about or see a family more messed up than yours.

There are some twists (ahem) to Twisted Sisters that makes this book more than a normal tale of rivalry. For one, Reagan is a psychologist on a reality-TV show (like a Dr. V or Dr. Jenn Berman), which is just plain fun for TV fans. There is plenty of time spent behind the reality TV cameras. Furthermore, there is magical realism, in that a hippie chick who works on the show can help people switch bodies. What what what?! This makes for some crazy problem-solving scenarios.

Perhaps the most entertaining part of the book is the internal voice of Reagan herself. She’s the nasty little friend who says everything you’re thinking, but she can be so evil and insecure, she’s almost an anti-hero. She’s the Walter White of sibling rivalry. And then you find yourself liking her, and rooting for her! She just wants love. Don’t we all! Twisted Sisters is out now, and available here.
