It's Monica's birthday! The singer is 33 today, which is pretty mind-blowing because she should be much older. She's been releasing music for eighteen years! She recorded her first album before high school, and has given the world so many amazing songs since then.

One of my favorites is off her second album, The Boy Is Mine. And no, it's not "The Boy Is Mine," though did you know that song is still one of the biggest in Billboard history? I digress. My favorite song is "The First Night," which is all about not sleeping with a guy on the first date. Monica explains how badly she wants this guy, but alas, she's not that kind of girl. Arguably, a teenage girl like Monica isn't usually stressed about sleeping with a guy on the first date, but how freakin' cute is she in this video?

Why aren't there more songs about incredibly specific dating scenarios? There are so many love songs in the world, but not enough about how to handle it when a guy isn't texting you back. "The First Night" was written by Jermaine Dupri and featured a Diana Ross sample (as all the best songs do). It is really catchy, and I am calling for a resurgence!

What song of Monica's do you love? Was "The Boy Is Mine" your jam in 1998? Tell us in the comments below or tweet us @OKMagazine.
