You probably already know this since you're most likely an active reader of the internet, but tonight is part 1 of the two-part season 13 premiere of American Idol. Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj are gone, Jennifer Lopez is back, Harry Connick Jr. is in, and Randy Jackson will be the contestants' mentor instead of a judge like he's been in the past. So yes, there are a lot of changes in store for season XIII. But honestly, does any of this really matter?!

American Idol has been around for 13 seasons, guys. People cared a lot during season 1 (so much so that the top two Kelly Clarkson and Justin Guarini got their own movie), and viewership has been pretty steady for the most part since. But last year's ratings for season 12, which Candice Glover won, were meh and the finale viewership hit an all-time low. So we're thinking that maybe, just maybe, people are over this show? Or not so much?

But hey, that's not to say that there aren't millions of AI fans that are going to tune in tonight and all season long. I mean, new judge Harry Connick Jr. isn't exactly hard to look at, and the show's recent changes could put a newer, fresher perspective on the show.
