I’m ridiculously excited for the release of Justin Timberlake‘s The 20/20 Experience and while I’m completely loving his current sound and look, I find myself reminiscing about the JT of yesteryear. The Justin who wore a denim-on-denim suit and a cowboy hat to match then-girlfriend Britney Spears’ denim gown. The Justin who made over-the-top curly hair on guys look good. Even the Justin with the heavily bleached caesar cut. Let’s face it, from his early days on the Mickey Mouse Club to the phenomenon that was ‘N Sync to the hit-making solo artist and actor he is today, the Memphis, Tenn. native has already had quite a career in his 32 years, and almost as many different looks as Madonna (I said almost). So without further adieu I bid you a photo retrospective on the man of the hour—Justin Timberlake!
Justin Timberlake and Ryan Gosling were total BFFs as castmates on 'The Mickey Mouse Club'. Look at those baby faces!
Justin and MMC castmates Dale Godboldo, Tony Lucca (remember him from 'The Voice'? Christina Aguilera doesn't!) and JC Chasez prepare for a music number.
Justin and 'MMC' castmate Nikki Deloach share a hug. You can now catch Nikki on MTV's 'Awkward.'.
Justin's mom Lynn was instrumental in getting 'N Sync off the ground. Here little JT poses with his mama and groupmate JC at a friend's wedding.
Justin and Joey knew each other prior to forming 'N Sync. Joey was a regular fixture in the audience of 'The Mickey Mouse Club' and was friends with a lot of the cast.
Now this is a look. Before they signed to RCA, the 'N Sync boys did a slew of promotional appearances around Orlando to get the word out about their group. Here JT and the guys attempt to show off their guns with seriously tight shirts and baggy jeans. Wowzers.
The bleached curls, the hair gel, the suit—whenever I want to pick on Justin for these style choices I have to remind myself that I once thought clear, high-heeled jelly shoes were cool. We all make mistakes.
Looking every bit the teen heartthrob, baby blue has always been JT's color.
With all due respect to Jessica Biel, I loved the Justin and Britney days and wonder how different the past decade would have played out if these two crazy kids could've made it work.
I just can't with these outfits. I get that they were being adorable, I get that they were young and I get that they were pop superstars, but these ensembles are all kinds of wrong. Moving on...
Showing off his new buzz cut, Justin shocks fans when he shed his curls.
This is more like it. JT ditches the denim the following year for the American Music Awards red carpet.
Promoting his first solo album 'Justified,' Justin opts for looks that are more polished and less flashy than his 'N Sync gear.
At this point Justin had really come into his own, proving he could be a successful solo artist outside of 'N Sync.
Ah, the day the term "wardrobe malfunction" found a permanent place in our vocabulary. The risque Super Bowl Halftime Show will forever go down in history.
Promoting one of his first feature films 'Alpha Dog', Justin gets all scruffy and actor-y, a departure from his more clean cut image.
Proving that everything this man touches turns to gold, JT and his childhood bestie Trace Ayala promote their clothing line William Rast, which is met with rave reviews.
Loving Justin's geek chic look at he supports then-girlfriend Jessica Biel at a 'Glamour' event promoting women in film.
I love that Justin still brings his mom, Lynn, as his date to awards shows and premieres. Here they pose on the red carpet the year his flick 'Social Network' was nominated for a slew of trophies.
Justin continues to score roles in major movies, like 'Trouble With the Curve' opposite Amy Adams and icon Clint Eastwood.
JT debuts his new, slick, ode to the Rat Pack look that complements his soulful throwback sound so well.
