Viewers watched Kailyn Lowry and Javi Marroquin’s marriage crumble on the most recent season of Teen Mom 2. Although the source of contention was a jealousy issue between the couple, the reality star has now revealed what caused the pair to almost end the marriage.
“I think it’s been hard because I’m a college student and it’s hard for me to balance a family life and a social life knowing that I can’t relate to a lot of the kids that I go to school with,” Kail told RadarOnline. “I can, but I can’t at the same time. It’s like this weird dynamic and I think just finding a balance where I can have my family and my social life—that’s where we have to figure it out.”
Since the season finale, the 23-year-old revealed that her relationship has improved. “Javi and I don’t fight like we used to,” she said. “And I think we kind of understand each other a lot better right now… We don’t have a whole lot of drama right now and we are just trying to make things work and figure things out.”
Kail believes her husband of three years “recognizing his place” in their problems and the both of them “taking responsibility” for their actions has helped their marriage. She added, “Just also having an understanding that we respect each other’s personal space too kind of helped us.”

With their marriage stronger than ever, Kail has advice for Teen Mom OG stars Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra, who tied the knot in August. “Always chose your spouse over everything else,” she explained. “I know I’ve had a really hard time doing that just because I am so young and I think I have a hard time balancing that.”

The Love is Bubblegum author also advised the newlyweds to “make time for yourself.” She added, “I think they’re for sure in it for the long haul.”
