The Duchess of Cambridge is breaking with tradition! Instead of having Christmas lunch at Queen Elizabeth’s Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, England, Kate wants to spend the holiday with her family! “Kate’s most cherished childhood memories are of relaxed holidays with her family,” a source told Life & Style. “She can’t wait to start a new family traditions with her children.”

Prince William asked official permission to skip Christmas lunch to host the holiday for Carole, Mike, Pippa and James Middleton in their Anmer Hall home.

And Her Royal Highness, of course, isn’t happy about the new arrangement. In an attempt to make it up to her, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will spend Christmas Eve at Sandringham.

When Prince George and Princess Charlotte open their presents on Christmas Eve, they won’t receive expensive ones! “The queen doesn’t like extravagance when it comes to presents, so there is never an abundance of them,” a source told E!. “The royals actually have a limit on how much they spend on each other, like Secret Santa.”

Family members could expect presents from the 2-year-old! "It is more than likely that George will have made some craft for key family members, as he likes making things," the source said. "Kate and Carole encourage their creativity. He will probably have made a present for his little sister as he is already very protective and proud of her, which is just adorable."

The family of four will then return to Anmer Hall, where the children will open more presents! "Prince George is the most excited about Christmas out of anyone in the family!" the source confessed. "He is super excited about Christmas and his little sister's first Christmas."

The children will even enjoy stockings filled with clothes and toys! "The family can't wait to make a fuss of Princess Charlotte and, of course, Prince George," the insider said.

Although the couple won’t attend lunch on Christmas Day, they will join the rest of the family at St. Mary Magdalene church. "This year, Charlotte will remain at home with nanny Maria Borrallo," the insider told E!.

As for Boxing Day, Princess Kate is skipping out on another tradition by not attending the annual pheasant shoot! “William thinks it’s fair that they alternate things with his family and Kate’s,” the insider told L&S. "They’ve found a fair arrangement for everyone.”
