Three women organized a protest, and at least 6,000 Facebook users rallied around them. Alex received death threats, prompting the network to cancel the premiere party.

Alex's father, Dr. Gary Kompothecras, confirmed the story to The Tampa Bay Times. "I wouldn't say that's the only reason," he said of the cancellation. "There are other reasons." The chiropractor, who funded the pilot episode of Siesta Key, declined to mention the other reasons.

In the disturbing video, two men can be seen torturing a shark by dragging it behind their boat and laughing about it.

Last week, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission identified the guys in the video and a spokesman said the agency wouldn't be revealing their names while they investigate. No charges have yet been filed, according to The Tampa Bay Times.
