I got to know Chris Daughtry during a photo shoot and interview at Connecticut’s Mohegan Sun when Daughtry opened for Bon Jovi. He told me about writing their self-titled debut during the American Idol tour in 2006. “There was no balance,” he tells me. “It was a show, it was flying to the studio, and flying back to the show. There was no balance. It was grueling. It was very brutal. We’ll probably never do that again.” It worked! Daughtry had the best-selling album of 2007, took home an American Music Award and were nominated for four Grammys. These days, the band is writing their follow-up. “We’re not pressed for a deadline yet,” he says.
