Dig faster, Alec, dig faster!

Alec Baldwin has issued an apology for some not terribly hilarious comments he made on Letterman the other day.

His remark that he'd need to get a "Filipino mail order bride" in order to have more kids, was taken so badly that a government minister in the Philippines invited him to come over there so he could personally give Alec a beating.

But he's now done some serious backpeddling in an article on the Huffington Post Web site.

CHECK out the interview here (the joke is right at the beginning):

"I believe that most people understood that this was a joke and took it as such. (A dated reference, no doubt, and another sign of my advancing age.)," he wrote.

"However, I do apologize to anyone who took offense. The comments of some Philippine government officials come as no surprise to me, either," the 30 Rock star went on.

"Such anger and frustration about the issue of sex trafficking is understandable. The Philippines has suffered significant problems with the issue of sex trafficking and I would like to turn your attention to the work of an organization called Love146 that my brother Stephen educated me about.
