"They only met once, but it changed their lives forever."

So goes the tagline for the 1985 classic film "The Breakfast Club."
Yesterday I was invited to join a ‘breakfast club’ that met at Coffee Shop in Union Square at 8 o’clock in the morning.

Like Newsmakers, ‘the breakfast club’ is also the brainchild of my networking-minded friend Shawn Sachs, but this meeting of the minds (that apparently has met five times previous to my first invitation) is more intimate, exclusive and beneficial to those of us who have become Newsmakers regulars.

When invited via email the day before, I seriously debated with myself whether it was a joke, 8am??? But I was a bit intrigued and decided to go out of curiosity- and because I was pretty sure that no one expected me to be in attendance at that hour of the morning and I like not being so predictable.

After running to Union Square, I was surprised to see people were actually there! And they were surprised that I was.  An eclectic mix of media, our group included a booker from the Rachael Ray show, Donny Deutsch’s right-hand woman, the founder of urbandaddy.com, a political advisor, another magazine writer, a Full Picture publicist (they rep the Victoria’s Secret angels,) myself and of course, Shawn.

Glad I went. Ironic for a ‘society editor,’ I have to admit to a measure of social anxiety, so it’s nice to be thrown into a situation, every now and again, where you’re introduced to people and almost forced to engage in conversation with strangers. Sometimes.
