Legendary actress Farrah Fawcett succumbed to cancer on June 25 at the age of 62, leaving legions of fans and family -- including love Ryan O'Neal and son Redmond -- devastated. But there was another leading man in the final chapters of Farrah's story: her college sweetheart, Greg Lott. "We were blind, crazy in love," her heartbroken flame tells OK!.

Farrah and Greg's romance began at the University of Texas at Austin in the 1960s. Before her hair and smile made her an icon, Farrah met and fell for the star quarterback. However, the two eventually went their separate ways.

"I lost her to Hollywood," Greg admits. But shortly after she and Ryan ended their 15-year relationship, Farrah and Greg reunited in 1997. Greg, 63, claims they kept their romance a secret in an effort not to drive a wedge between Farrah and her son.

Still, despite the clandestine affair, Greg, who lives in Texas, spoke to Farrah as many as three times a day, and her letters are evidence that she looked to him for strength as she battled cancer.

"If we both say our prayers we might certainly see each other soon," she told Greg in a letter dated March 27, 2007. "I love you with all my heart, and just know I am getting stronger every day. Love, always and forever, Farrah."

The last time Greg spoke with the Charlie's Angels star was in early April 2009, shortly before she was released from Santa Monica's St. John's Hospital under Ryan's care.

"I'm coming home tomorrow," she told him. "I love you and will call you."

Greg never spoke to her again.
