Christian Slater is making his TV debut!

Okay, that’s not entirely true. The star of great late eighties hits like Heathers and Pump Up the Volume has been dabbling in primetime over the last few years, with guest spots on My Name is Earl, Alias and The West Wing.

But now he’s taking the top cast slot in his new NBC series, My Own Worst Enemy. Make that the top two slots.

“Essentially I’m playing two characters. Edward is sort of an every man who takes the kids to school and has never been in a fight in his life,” Christian says. As for his alter identity? “Henry is sort of the antithesis of that guy. He’s bit of a wild man, unpredictable, and very dangerous.”

Duh, Henry has to be hard since he’s a spy! “It is a Jekyll and Hyde story with a bit of James Bond thrown in,” Christian laughs.

If the 38-year-old actor is nervous about taking on his first leading TV role, he isn’t showing it. “I’m very excited. It’s my first real commitment to television,” he declares. “I feel it’s like a good marriage.”

And Christian is definitely due one of those!

My Own Worst Enemy premieres Sept. 29 at 10 p.m. on NBC.
