It often takes a decade to become a household name — but Julianne Hough did it in a year! Already a fan favorite on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars, the budding country singer released a hit album this year, as well as a collection of holiday songs.

separate homes, so far — Julianne will soon be on the road again, which means

plenty of long-distance phone calls; the couple talks 24/7.

“We complement each other well,” says Julianne. “We understand each other’s careers and passions.”

The DWTS pro talked to OK! at MasterCard and Home Depot’s Overjoy of Giving promotion in NYC (she rewarded people who performed random acts of kindness on the street with gift cards) about her promising future, and why wedding bells won’t be ringing — yet.

"I’m not getting married, and I don’t have a ring on my finger. Well, I do, but not on

my ring finger," she laughs. "Nothing is happening anytime soon. I’m enjoying my relationship, and each step."

Julianne was engaged once before to dancer Zach Wilson, but the engagement was called off in April 2007.

"I’m still close with him," she reveals to OK!. "We actually stayed together through March 2008 after we called off the engagement. I wasn’t ready to get married. He’s a really great guy, and whoever ends up with him is very lucky."

Her split with Zach has definitely changed the way she looks at relationships, the dancing pro admits.

"I’m not rushing anything, and I’m a lot more secure with myself," she explains. "I definitely like who I am on my own without a boyfriend"
