When the news hit that director Baz Luhrmann was adapting F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic, The Great Gatsby, into a 3-D movie and casting Leonardo DiCaprio in the title role, many wondered if this flick would flourish or flop.
While the jury's still out, today we got a sneak peek at the '20s glitter and glamour epitomized by Fitzgerald's Long Island and New York City in 1922. Leonardo looks slick as Jay Gatsby, Carey Mulligan plays his love interest Daisy Buchanan and Tobey Maguire is narrator Nick Carraway.
While the movie is technically a period piece, the trailer takes on a modern feel with music by Kanye West and Jay-Z, and party scenes at Gatsby's West Egg mansion that could easily double for a modern day costume party soiree.
Regardless, Isla Fisher, who plays Myrtle Wilson, says Baz demanded the cast finish a 20s-era play workshop before filming began.
"We were immersed entirely in [the 1920's]," she said.
