AAAHHHHH. Okay now that I’ve got that out of the way…

Today is my first day in L.A. as an L.A. resident and while excited, cross-country relocation comes with a lot of tedious responsibilities (which aren’t my strong point) and some moving hassles and transition pains that are to be expected. Some of mine so far:

-I love my new house. It’s adorable, I have a big garden, lots of windows, more space than I had in New York for a house that’s half the price, it has CLOSETS and lots of charm — now I have to work on finding furniture to fill the space and pretty pictures to fill the very white walls.I asked for tan, but it’s more of an eggshell.

-This is the first time in my life I’m living alone without a roommate so I’m very glad to have my friend and colleague Matt live upstairs from me (it’s basically a house where he has the upstairs and I have the downstairs). Although I’m looking forward to the experience of living alone, it’s somewhat comforting to have a friend, and a guy, in such close proximity.

-BUT… I learned last night that my charming house has the thinnest walls EVER! Not only could I nearly make out almost every word Matt said UPSTAIRS in his apartment (Matt, consider yourself warned on this), but he was behind his turntables mixing music up there until I texted him at 2 a.m. that it felt like I was sleeping on a cot in the back room of the nightclub Marquee! Seriously, I’m easy going, a night owl AND I’m from NYC and accustomed to noise, but the dance music rattling my walls and eardrums had me putting the pillow he lent me over my head instead of under it!

-I can’t get my wireless Internet card to work so I just walked the streets (in the drizzling rain) until I found the coffee shop where I now sit to print out instructions for the movers to put together the limited IKEA furniture I brought with me. I know if I don’t they’ll use it as an excuse NOT to assemble my very large bookshelf.

-On a much happier note, I had breakfast this morning at the Farmer’s Market, realized my house is only a six-minute walk from the Grove (gorgeous outdoor shopping mall with regular celebrity sightings) and the streets around my house are filled with furniture and thrift shops. I’m gonna like it here… just need to get through the transition pains ;) xo
