Mariah Carey has always been a force to be reckoned with. Her 1990 debut album featured four number one singles and won the new artist her first two Grammys. Success didn't stop there for the delicate diva. After marrying Tommy Mottola in 1993, the record executive who made Mariah a star, Mariah's next album Music Box also tops the charts, though soon her marriage flounders. In 1997, the couple call it quits and Mariah soon becomes a regular in the New York club scene. In 2001, after a disturbing appearance on Total Request Live Mariah checks into a hospital due to "an emotional and physical breakdown." To make matters worse, Mariah's film debut Glitter tanks at the box office and Virgin and EMI end their contract with the troubled star. In 2005, Mariah Carey makes one of the most impressive Hollywood comebacks with her album The Emancipation of Mimi, earning the singer three Grammy's and the best-selling record of the year. The first single off her next album, E=MC2 "Touch My Body" becomes Mariah's 18th number one singer, beating Elvis Presley's record. That same year, Mariah marries actor Nick Cannon with whom she welcomed twins with in 2011. Mariah also proved that she had grown as an actress since her unfortuante Glitter days. In 2009, Mariah earned rave reviews for her role in Precious.
