Millionaire Matchmaker star Patti Stanger offers the promise of a better life by finding a rich mate, but she doesn’t sugarcoat the reality of marrying up. She also talks about why the man should buy the engagement ring, solves Jennifer Aniston’s love woes, explains why Jessica Simpson needs a new man — and what Kim Kardashian should do next time she finds herself single.

Just because a woman marries a rich man doesn’t mean all her problems are solved, the reality star, whose DVD Married In A Year is out now, admits.

“Those who marry for money get what they pay for at the end of the day,” she tells me. “They may become Madoff. Look what happened to his wife. You will get your payday one day, and it might be that you lose your money. Will you still want to be with your man? You have to have more than money to be the glue. That’s not the glue. That’s superficiality. The universe will take it away from you if you do that.”

Still, a steady cash flow is key – especially when it comes to the beaus of celebs like Jessica Simpson and LeAnn Rimes, who are rumored to have bought their own engagement rings.

“Most times when you see somebody who doesn’t have the money marry a wealthy woman, the woman bought the ring,” she says. “I think it’s bad because when I was dating [ex-fiance] Andy [Friedman], he didn’t make as much money as me. He made $150 grand a year, and he bought me a $25,000 ring. He saved for it, but he did it.”

She adds, “I think it’s sad. It says that the man has not invested. It’s not about the amount of money on the ring – it’s that he bought it with his own money. Even if he bought her an amethyst. I remember when Spencer Pratt bought Heidi Montag that beautiful ring at Icing. I thought that ring was beautiful – it may not have been a diamond, but he definitely spent $2,500 on it. It’s better if the man buys the ring than anything – even if it is a chip. It could be a starter ring, until the next ring.”

She has harsh words for Jessica, who is engaged to former NFL player Eric Johnson.

“Get rid of him – next! He has no job. The guy’s a douche bag. He has no job, he played for six seconds on the team. He is not – not – the guy for her. I have never seen him be the guy for her. She needs a strong powerhouse, and that ain’t it. She needs somebody like her dad. Her dad is a genius, and so is her mom. That’s why their marriage is strong. I think she needs a guy like her dad, a businessman – not someone trying to use her and use her coattails. Someone who has his own thing – even if it’s a small little business he just started, Joe will take it to the next level.”

Patti also urges Ms. Kardashian to look beyond the basketball court should she find herself alone again after her romance with New Jersey Nets star Kris Humphries.

“I love Kim,” she says. “I think she’s awesome. Take your time, but don’t look for the biggest fish out there. It might be that she only wants to date a celebrity, but a celebrity would be great if it was somebody who looked at her and said ‘oh my God, you are my princess.’ But look at her mom with Bruce. Bruce was a celebrity, left that world and is a real full-time dad. He’s a good guy. I think she might do better to find a businessman who lets her walk and shine on the carpet while he stands in the background. Maybe a president of a network. I think she’s fabulous.

Patti feels a bond with Jennifer Anstion, who has said she would trade her career for love.

“I agree with her, and I would do the same,” she says. “I’m right there with her sister. I would give up my entire existence to find true love. It’s all about me this year. I’ve worked my a** off. I’m going to find my husband this year. That’s it.”

Unlike Patti, Jennifer has a longer process until she finds true love.

“I love Jennifer because I feel kinship with her,” she says. “It’s hard to overcome cheating. Those are healings. You have to go into internal healing, you have to do hypnosis, you have to do cellular healing – multidimensional healing. You have to work on your vibration. That is not ‘just get her the next guy and go here.’ That’s an internal thing. That’s healing. And when she shifts, the guy will show up and it won’t be a douche bag like John Mayer.”

Hm, why do celebs have such trouble finding lasting love?

“They’re very superficial,” she says. “They like the best of the best of the best. The hottest people. The second thing is there’s so much temptation in Hollywood – to trade up, to break up, to cheat. The third thing is that they will only date each other – civilians don’t count.”
