PETA, the animal rights group which has often criticized Britney Spears for wearing fur and buying pets from pet stores, extended an olive branch to the singer on Monday.

In a letter addressed to Britney on its blog, PETA president Ingrid Newkirk offered the recovering pop star a job as a "virtual receptionist," stating she was impressed with her performance last week on How I Met Your Mother. Newkirk says she hopes that through working at PETA, Britney can experience the issues first hand.

"You would see — from the inside — why we are so concerned about issues like fur and homeless dogs and cats. As a 'thank you' for your willingness to learn and help, we would donate $1000 to a children's charity," Newkirk wrote in her letter.

Newkirk continues, "We might have criticized you in the past for contributing to the dog overpopulation crisis and wearing real fur, but perhaps now that your own crisis has abated, a new day calls for a new relationship, a new outlook and a new understanding."

PETA, (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has yet to receive any response from Brit's camp.

We're thinking Ingrid Newkirk might not want to hold her breath.
