January 1 marks a New Year and a “new you” for many who choose to use New Year’s resolutions to achieve their goals. The stars are just the same.

After going through a tough divorce from The Twilight Saga's Peter Facinelli in 2012, Jennie Garth plans to focus on fitness in 2013.

“I want to do more running,” the mom of three tells me during the eBay Toy Box Pop-Up Shop event benefiting Toys For Tots. “I want to exercise. I enjoy it very much.”

Although Real Housewives of New Jersey star Melissa Gorga could resolve to patch things up with sister-in-law Teresa Giudice, she also plans to change up her fitness routine.

“My New Year’s resolution is I’m going to do more crunches this year,” she tells me during a Voli Light Vodkas event in New Jersey. “My New Year’s resolution is all about abs this year. I want to get killer abs, so yeah, I’m going to workout, but I’m going to focus on the abs.”

She continues, “Just because I feel like after having my third child, my stomach never fully went back to the way it used to be. It was always my asset. My stomach was always ‘my thing.’ I always had a belly shirt on when I was young, because that was my good feature. I feel like after you stretch it out three times, you need to work harder for it. Definitely abs — all winter long — abs.”

Blake Shelton, whose protégé Cassadee Pope won The Voice, has three lifestyle updates he plans to make.

During the JCPenney Holiday Giving tour stop in California, Miranda Lambert's husband tells me, “1. Win The Voice a couple of more times; 2. Work on language; 3. Really work on having a less controversial Twitter.”

Kyle Richards is also making changes in the tech department.

“My New Year’s resolution is always to exercise more, eat healthier, and try to stay away from my iPhone,” the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and Stars In Danger: The High Dive star tells me. “I’m always on Twitter and Instagram, and sometimes I have to be like ‘put the phone down.’ I find myself hiding now – as soon as I walk through the door, I put it down. We don’t have it when we’re at dinner or things with the kids. I want to do that a little less.”

While Dancing With The Stars hoofer Maksim Chermovskiy hopes his 2013 is just as great as his 2012, Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale has bigger dreams.

“My whole thing every year is to always stay focused and work harder than I did the previous year,” she tells me during the Duracell Power Holiday Smiles campaign benefiting Toys For Tots in NYC. “I have a lot of exciting things coming up next year, so I guess to stay focused on those, and work harder than I’ve ever worked.”

Meanwhile Hugh Jackman and Donald Trump Jr. have sworn off resolutions because they can’t keep them.

Still, Paula Abdul has found a way to stick to her plan.

“I'm more of a goal-setter,” she tells me while promoting her Avon jewelry line Forever Selected By Paula Abdul. “Goals have always been a part of my life. If I set a resolution to not eat sugar or to get to the gym more, I'd probably break it by the end of the week! Resolutions get made in the heat of the moment, and people always feel bad when they break them. My goals are based on things that lift me up and make me feel good. I always want to inspire, so I set goals based on how I'd like to inspire people to pursue their fitness and nutrition goals with love and acceptance of their current selves.  I think, ‘Am I focusing my energy on what I don't have?’ Then I write a plan so that I can take action to achieve that goal.”

She adds, “My goal is to achieve even higher levels of nutrition and fitness. Also, I will continue to encourage and inspire others to reach higher to achieve their nutrition and fitness goals. There's nothing like being a witness to your own powerful transformation. I want others to experience the incredible level of health and wellness that I've been experiencing.”

During the Healthy Child, Healthy World’s Mom On A Mission Awards held in NYC, Kelly Rutherford, who is fighting for custody of her children Hermes, 6, and Helena, 3, with ex Daniel Giersch, makes her 2013 resolutions.

“To continue to raise awareness around children’s issues, and women, and to make that my life’s mission, along with acting and doing all these other things I love. I want to be the best mom I can be, live life and have fun.”

TV host Samantha Harris resolves to ditch her mom jeans.

“I would like to jump into the trend of brightly-colored jeans,” she tells me during Alli’s Let’s Fight Holiday Fat event in NYC. “I’ve got muted-colored jeans, but I’d like brightly-colored jeans. I think that would be fun, frivolous and get me away from being stuck in a fashion rut of mom wardrobe when I’m not on camera.”

Happy 2013, everyone!
