Naomi Watts may be best friends with Nicole Kidman, portray Princess Diana in an upcoming film, and look forward to screen time with Robert Pattinson, but she still shops at Target.

“I love my John Derian plates,” she tells me Tuesday at Target’s 50th Anniversary Celebration held at Center 548 in NYC. “They have dragonflies and ladybugs, and all kinds of bugs all over them. My kids eat from them. They’re great plastic plates.”

As a busy mom to Sasha, 5, and Samuel, 4, whose dad is beau Liev Schreiber, the actress, 44, appreciates the starring role in the Princess Diana movie, called Diana, which is due out next year. (She is still filming.)

In the biographical drama, she dons a wig and prosthetic nose, which take more than an hour to apply in hair-and-makeup.

What has been her favorite look so far?

“There’s a lot of suits, double-breasted sometimes, and jewelry from that era. All of those things help create the character.”

Still, she hasn’t gotten to meet Diana’s son, Prince William, or his wife Kate Middleton.

“They know that the film is being made — I’m sure it’s on their radar — but we don’t have contact with them.”

One person she will have contact with is R-Pattz, whom she stars with in the upcoming biographical drama Queen of The Desert.

“It will be fantastic,” she says.

In the film, she plays Gertrude Bell — the explorer, writer, archaeologist and political attaché who worked for British Intelligence in World War I, and established present-day Jordan and Iraq. Robert plays her pal, Lawrence of Arabia, who played a pivotal role in the Middle Eastern revolutions.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Queen of the Desert will shoot in Jordan and England in the coming months.

But before that happens, Naomi heads into the event, where appetizers including bite-size spaghetti-and-meatballs are served, and surprise guest Alicia Keys treats guests to an a capella performance.
