Ricky Gervais is not too concerned about the backlash from his Golden Globes hosting gig Sunday. The comedian took to his blog to discuss the controversy and slam rumors that organizers of the awards ceremony "fired" him an hour before the live broadcast ended. And judging by the Twitpic posted by Ellen DeGeneres (in which he is posing in her underwear), we think Hollywood still likes Ricky — including Hugh Hefner!
"I enjoyed the Globes more this year. I think I had better gags. More along the lines of the Mel Gibson one last year,” Ricky wrote on his blog. “Obviously the rumor that the organizers stopped me going out on stage for an hour is rubbish. I did every link I was scheduled to do. The reason why the gaps were uneven is because when I got the rundown I was allowed to choose who I presented to. I obviously chose the spots that I had the best gags for. They couldn’t move around the order but I could move around however I wanted."
Ricky also addressed the media fallout which ignited a slew of haters.
“Why do people have to embellish? They’re allowed to say they hated it. They’re allowed to say they didn’t find it funny, that it was tasteless, over the top, or whatever. But why do they speculate and make stuff up?,” he said. “Don’t worry, I know the answer. Because it’s more interesting than ‘it went fine and some people won some awards and then went to a party’. But that’s all that happened.”
Even Hugh Hefner, who was the brunt of some crude jokes from Ricky centering around the Playboy mogul's recent engagement to a woman 60 years his junior, took the blows in stride.
"the Golden Globes was a blast. They made fun of everyone, including Crystal & me. A great night." Hugh Tweeted.
When asked by one of his Twitter followers if he was offended, Hugh replied, "I'm used to cheap shots. ... It goes with the territory."
"It's ironic that living with 3 young girls prompted a hit TV show, but marrying one prompts humor," he continued on Twitter. "Age is still just a number. ... Jokes about age will begin to seem lame as we all begin to live longer, fuller lives."
Yesterday, Ellen Tweeted a photo of Ricky on the balcony of his hotel in a pair of golden Ellen underwear, with a simple message: "Please enjoy this photo of Ricky Gervais in my underwear."
With Hugh's response and the photo from Ellen, we don't think there are any hard feelings between Ricky and Hollywood.
Ricky never hid his intentions, and on the red carpet before the globes he shared his plan for who he would target.
"Anyone who misbehaves. Anyone who is thinner and more attractive than me. That's everyone isn't it," he quipped.
