Jun. 3 2008, Published 3:00 p.m. ET
After Tatum O'Neal's arrest on Sunday, the actress talks to the New York Post about the incidents that led up to her attempting to buy drugs in NYC. She told the paper, "I'm still sober!"
She added, "Just when I was about to change that and wreck my life, the cops came and saved me!"
Although she had a slew of excuses when arrested for why she was trying to buy drugs, she told the Post that the real reason was the death of her 16-year-old dog. She now admits, "there's no excuse for what I did," other than the new excuse she now gives the paper.

"I lost my Scottish terrier, Lena, three weeks ago. That seemed to set me off," she said. "She got old. She got cancer. She was the fabric of our family. We had to let her go to heaven. My daughter and I had to put her down. It was too horrible for words. "
But Tatum is just happy that she didn't end up relapsing. "I was saved by the bell, by the guys in the Seventh Precinct."
Tatum is due in court on July 28.
