The lovable John Cusack is taking on a whole new kind of role — Edgar Allen Poe! In the new psychological thriller The Raven, John brings the mysterious author to life.

The film, directed by James McTeigue, tells the story of Poe’s final days, which he spent hunting down a killer whose murders were centered around methods used in the author’s dark and twisted short stories.

Most of the shots in the trailer are gray, with fog-filled streets and ravens popping up throughout, casting a gloomy feel for the film.

There seems to be a ray of light surrounding Poe and his love interest, Emily (Alice Eve), but of course she becomes caught up in the killer’s web, giving Poe more incentive to catch the predator and seek justice.

Luke Evans also stars in the film, playing detective Emmett Fields.
