When it comes to etiquette, manners and overall good behavior, even celebrities need help navigating the rough waters of stardom! It’s a good thing Countess LuAnn de Lesseps of the Real Housewives of New York is joining forces with OK! to school them on the right thing to do! In a rough situation, we just ask, “What Would the Countess Do?” This week the Countess counsels us on being polite and chasing the Winter blues away.
How do you know when it’s polite to offer your help to someone — either physical assistance or whether you should offer help to a friend who might be a bit prickly and easily offended?
It is always polite to lend a hand to a person in need whether you know the person or not. If you approach an elderly person struggling with packages or getting on the bus, just ask if he or she needs help, then respect their answer. I once tried to help my friend’s ninety-six year-old father cross the street in New York City and he pulled his arm away because he was offended that I thought he needed help. Offer to help your friends and if they reject your help, let them know that you are there for them if they change their mind.
Tip: Always offer to help. Being considerate of others is at the heart of charm and grace.
How do you keep the winter blues at bay? What are some winter-friendly activities you do to keep your mojo going?
When it’s cold outside, it is tempting to hibernate but to keep the winter blues at bay; you’ve got to move! You have to expend energy to have energy. Eating right coupled with exercise can make all the difference in how you feel this winter. During the winter months, I try to stick to my Mediterranean diet, rich in seafood, vegetables and fruits and I walk outside as much as possible. I also enjoy snow skiing and ice skating with my kids.
Tip: Put on a warm coat and get outside! Walk for at least 20 minutes in the fresh air three times a week to banish the winter blues.
