A Friend, a talking frog, a Flying Nun, an acid-tongued
judge — these are just some of television’s greatest icons, according to TV
Land and Entertainment Weekly. The net and the pub put their brains together to
compile the list of the 50 Greatest TV Icons, which will be featured in an
upcoming issue of EW and the focus of a two-hour special airing on TV Land Friday
at 8 p.m.

So who made the coveted list?

Dallas
Larry Hagman of “Who shot J.R.?” fame kicks off the list at No. 50. He is
followed by a flurry of stars of the turn of the millennium, including Simon
Cowell
(47), Sarah Michelle Gellar (45), Jennifer Aniston (39), George Clooney (37)
and Sarah Jessica Parker, six spots below him.

As we get closer to the top, the stars get more revered — Barbara
Walters
clocks in at No. 23 with William Shatner at No. 18 and Bob Newhart right
below him.

Also making the cut are Lassie at No. 46, Kermit the Frog at
No. 21 and Homer Simpson at No. 9. D’oh!

Joining Homer in the top 10 are Jerry Seinfeld, Mary Tyler Moore, Oprah Winfrey and Lucille Ball. But none of them are as iconic as… Johnny Carson.

The top 10 is as follows:

10. Dick Clark

9. Homer Simpson

8. Jerry Seinfeld

7. Mary Tyler Moore

6. Carol Burnett

5. Walter Cronkite

4. Bill Cosby

3. Oprah Winfrey

2. Lucille Ball

1. Johnny Carson
