The reasons why are complex: A sergeant of the Special Air Service was recently convicted of illegal weapons possession, and during his trial, further details surfaced that suggest that the Special Air Service was behind Princess Diana's death.

Detectives of Scotland Yard will be examining these new details to see if a new investigation should be launched, though a spokesperson says they are not reopening the case at this time: "The Metropolitan Police Service is scoping information that has recently been received in relation to the deaths and assessing its relevance and credibility. The assessment will be carried out by officers from the specialist crime and operations command."

A spokesperson for the royal family said there would be no comment from Prince William or Harry, while a representative for Princess Diana's lost boyfriend Dodi Fayed said he would be "interested in the outcome" of an investigation.
