Uma Thurman might be known best as a blood-thirsty bad-ass in movies like Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction.

But she's just as good when she shows her softer side — at least, the judges at the Boston Film Festival think so.

They've awarded the 39-year-old mother of two the festival’s Excellence Award for her role in her latest flick, Motherhood.

In the new flick the Boston native plays Eliza, an aspiring writer who is struggling to find her identity while looking after her two children.

“Uma has entertained audiences around the globe in varied performances and has become an inspiration to women,” Executive Director of the 25th BFF Robin Dawson says, explaining their decision.

The festival opens on September 18 at the Landmark Kendall Square Theatre with a screening of Motherhood.
