On the heels of reports that Burt Reynolds, 73, has checked into rehab for drugs and alcohol, his rep is speaking to the media about what led to the veteran actor seeking treatment.

"After a recent back surgery, Mr. Reynolds felt like he was going through hell and after a while, realized he was a prisoner of prescription pain pills. He checked himself into rehab in order to regain control of his life," his rep tells Extra.
