Carrie Underwood’s life has done a total turnaround since she won American Idol in 2005. These days, she’s on the road playing sold-out concerts thanks to her chart-toppers like Before He Cheats and Last Name.
“I’ve grown up a lot,” the Oklahoma native says. “This is a time in anybody’s life where they do a lot of growing, personally and emotionally, so on and so forth. But I think just a lot has happened and I feel more comfortable with myself, being in front of people. I’ve been working on it, of course, but I don’t know. I don’t feel like a lost little puppy anymore. I’m really able to sit back and enjoy everything more, instead of ‘what am I doing? What’s going on? Everybody’s dragging me everywhere. I don’t know what to do.’”
Since the 25-year-old beauty is one of country’s biggest stars, she has to make amends in getting around.
“I go to the grocery store at midnight, and that’s great,” she says.
But getting recognized is not always rosy.
“Every once in awhile, I will be with friends or family, and I feel like I’m ruining their night by hanging out with them,” Carrie says. “A lot of times I might say ‘I’m just going to stay home tonight. You guys have fun bowling’ because I know it’s going to be a big to-do and everybody’s going to be miserable. I kind of wish I could disguise myself better, I guess. I don’t know. I try.”
She isn’t ungrateful, though.
“People are excited, they’re happy and they want to meet you and they want to talk to you, which is great, because that means they like you.”
What's her proudest accomplishment?
“It all started with one amazing journey on American Idol. That accomplishment spurred all these other ones, and I credit that.”
