Celebrity Favorite Jimmy Choo to Design for H&M

After collaborating with many celebrities, WWD reports that Swedish fashion giant, H&M is partnering up with another celebrity-favorite, shoe designer Jimmy Choo for holiday retailing. It’s said that Jimmy Choo would design a collection of bags, shoes and accessories for women and men, and also a range of women’s clothing. The collection will be available in 200 H&M stores, starting November 14, 2009.

  Retailer H&M have just announced plans for a collaboration with luxury shoe designer Jimmy Choo. The capsule line, due to hit store on November 14th, is the first time an accessories designer has had a partnership with H&M. What's more, Jimmy will also produce a line of menswear for the store.

  Founder and President of Jimmy Choo Tamara Mellon commented, "Jimmy Choo will bring to H&M a sophisticated, fashion forward, accessible and glamorous collection – the perfect party pieces to buy now and then wear out that night!" Margareta van der Bosch, the creative director of H&M is also thrilled. She stated, "This collaboration is particularly exciting because it's our first shoe designer collection. It's a joy to be able to offer top end designer shoes and bags of excellent quality to our customers."

What a great way to stay glamorous for the party season – roll on November!

  Fashionistas who don't want to spend $1,000 to get their Jimmy Choo shoe fix can soon turn to Swedish fashion retailer H&M, which will offer a new line of shoes at a fraction of the cost as part of a new partnership with the famed designer.

H&M said the famed shoemaker - one of the favorite pump labels of ``Sex & the City'' character ``Carrie'' - will launch the collection in 200 H&M stores on Nov. 14, including covetable shoes and bags as well as a women's clothing line to match them.

Jimmy Choo will also provide a men's collection of shoes, bags and accessories.

According to Jennifer Uglialoro, a spokeswoman for H&M's U.S. business, most of the footwear will range from $99 to $129 for boots, though there are over-the knee boots priced at $299. Shoppers can also find ballet flats for $59.95. Handbags will be priced from $59.95 to $299.

As for clothing, shoppers can find $69.95 sequins tank tops and $249 suede one-shoulder dresses. Uglialoro noted that the collection will be sold in about 10 to 12 U.S. stores in major markets, but those locations have not yet been decided.

Jimmy Choo's designer shoe collection at department stores and boutiques range in price from about $600 to $1,200.

Most of H&M's clothing sells from $60 to $89, Uglialoro said.

``We adore Jimmy Choo's shoes and bags,'' H&M's Creative Designer Margareta van den Bosch said in a statement, adding it was the first time the company collaborated with an accessory brand. ``I like the way we have worked with clothes to accessorize the shoes and bags rather than the other way around,'' she said.

According to Stockholm-based H&M, Jimmy Choo - which was founded in 1996 - has been worn by Hollywood celebrities such as Cate Blanchett, Halle Berry and Hilary Swank, and first lady Michelle Obama.

The collaboration is another coup for H&M, which has in the past (previously) produced collections with designers and pop iconsKarl Lagerfeld, Roberto Cavalli and Stella McCartney and stars Madonna and Kylie Minogue.

Jimmy Choo's president Tamara Mellon said today she felt honoured to be among the fashion greats who have been affiliated with H&M. 

'It's such a privilege to design a collection to appeal to fashion savvy, street smart women.  

  Tamara Mellon is designing shoes and bags for the Swedish mega-store, as well as a full women’s collection for the November launch. The clothing, however, is meant to complement the accessories, not the other way around. They’ll also do a full range for men.

We’re usually thrilled with H&M’s design collaborations and we know girls will scramble to buy something stamped ‘Choo’ - but why not let Jimmy Choo stick to accessories and find another great designer, one who’d love the opportunity, to design a solid clothing collection?

Not that we won’t be there on opening day, it’s just that we’ll probably bypass the clothes for the tallest shoes we can find.
