Celeste Holm, 'All About Eve' Star, Dead at 95

Celeste Holm, Academy Award-winning actress and Broadway sensation, has passed away at the age of 95.

According to NPR, she died in her NYC apartment yesterday morning. Perhaps best-known for her roles in Gentleman's Agreement (for which won a supporting actress Oscar in 1948), All About Eve and Oklahoma!, the actress was hospitalized a few weeks ago after a fire in Robert De Niro's apartment in the very same building.

During an interview with NPR nearly 20 years ago, she recalled landing the role in the Oklahoma!, Rodgers and Hammerstein play. During the audition, Celeste was asked if she had comedic chops to play a simple girl from the country. She explained, "'Well,' I said, 'What does that sound like?' And he said, 'It's a bald, bold, unedited voice.'" She replied, "So I said, 'Well, I can call a hog.' He said, 'I dare you.' So I said, 'Sooooo-weeeeee.' And at the end of that, he said, 'Well, that's loud enough, that's funny enough.' And that's how I got my job."
