Just because Charlie Sheen has “the goddesses” and Simon Rex along on his Violent Torpedo of Truth tour doesn’t mean he has reliable companions.

“I think Charlie needs friends who can talk to him and be there and support him in his time of need,” Dr. Mehmet Oz tells me during HealthCorps’ Fresh From The Garden Gala held Wednesday at Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum in NYC.

“He’s a smart man; he’ll work it out. It’s going to take a little while. But this is a time when humans thrive the most with people who love them.”

What difference do pals make?

“When we have troubles in our lives, a lot of times we turn to medications,” he says. “We turn to quick fixes. What will help you is people who loved you before and will love you afterwards. They provide the social network to support us.”

He continues, “Emotional catastrophes, financial catastrophes strip years off our lives. The reason humans survive is because we bond together to help each other out. Whether you’re a celebrity or not, it’s the same basic message. Come together and give yourself help. That helps when it’s from the people who care about you most.”

While the good doctor won’t diagnose the Emmy favorite, he believes Charlie has issues.

“I don’t know if he has an addiction problem, but he has challenges. We all do. We’re all messed up. We’re all flawed human beings. Some of us are a little bit more lousy than others.”

Dr. Oz founded HealthCorps, which fights childhood obesity.
