For David Cook, appearing on American Idol has meant months of heartache while he is separated from his terminally ill brother.

But they will be reunited this week, after family friends moved heaven and Earth to make sure his big bro Adam will be sitting in the studio audience on Tuesday, a local newspaper is reporting.

Adam, 36, is undergoing chemotherapy for his second diagnosis of brain cancer, which has spread to his spine.

According to the Terra Haute Tribune Star, when doctors told Adam that he was too sick to take a regular commercial flight to L.A., he thought he would never be able to see David live on the American Idol stage.

But friends and a local hospital have banded together to send Adam and his wife, Kendra, from their hometown of Terra Haute, Ind., to California on a medically equipped plane, accompanied by a nurse and a medic.

The couple arrived in L.A. yesterday.

Indiana-based Clarian Health has picked up the estimated $78,000 bill for the flight and the two medical staff, while a local radio station has paid for a hotel right across the street from CBS Television City where Idol is filmed.

His family say that David is too excited for words about the visit. The brothers are planning on having dinner together and David is going to make time in his schedule so they can hang out.

Media reports have claimed that stress over his Adam's sickness has been responsible for both his below-par performance last Wednesday and his own hospital visit two weeks ago.

"I'm so thrilled for Adam," Kendra Cook told the Tribune and Star. "It's been an awesome dream, an awesome goal, an awesome thought."

"The excitement of seeing his spirits lifted so high has been wonderful," she said.

Father of two, Adam, who was a practicing lawyer until he became seriously sick, was diagnosed with brain cancer eight years ago.

The couple will stick around for the results on Wednesday night before going home on Thursday.
