While David Duchovny and Téa Leoni weather the storm during the Golden Globe Awards held Sunday in L.A., this isn't the first time they've stood up to challenges.

The couple separated in 2008 before his stint in rehab for sex addiction, and they couldn’t be more pleased to be back in each other’s arms.

“She’s a great partner and wife and mother,” David, 49, says of the woman he wed in 1997.

The Californication star admits that they “aren’t really” competitive with each other.

“She’s a good tennis player,” he tells me. “We play a lot of tennis but we don’t play against one and other. We just rally, which I think is wise because she’d probably beat me.”

How is the family, which also includes daughter Madelaine, 10, and son Kyd, 7, doing these days?

“Great,” David says. “Everything’s great, thanks for asking.”

How does he balance fatherhood and career?

“It’s just a moment-by-moment, day-by-day thing,” he says. “I mean, I had to leave them to come here. That’s tough.”

He certainly cherishes his dad time.

“Being with my kids, and watching them open up,” he says of the best part of Madelaine and Kyd grow up. “We traveled cross-country last summer, and just watching them relate to new people and new experiences. It’s great to see them as little people.”
