Rev up the engines! David Hasselhoff is a Knight Rider once more!

The actor, who shot to stardom 25 years ago as crime-fighting hunk Michael Knight, is set to make a cameo in a new NBC TV movie version of the classic show famous for David's plunging necklines and his super-intelligent talking car, KITT.

OK! was there on Wednesday as NBC unveiled the new KITT Ford Mustang and introduced the cast of the new movie, set to air Sunday, Feb. 17. While former All My Children hunk Justin Bruening will be the main human star of the updated sequel, the Hoff is on board to reprise the role of Michael Knight. But before you expect to see him jumping over a river in a turbo-charged super-car, you should know that this time around, David appears in a small role as the father of Justin's character, Mike.

Executive producer David Bartis told OK! that Hasselhoff’s participation was essential. “The audience wants to see that... He’s such a part of the legacy of the show,” Bartis explained to OK! “He loves Knight Rider. I think it’s something that’s really important to him — and that it’s done the right way.”

New star Justin revealed to OK! that he’s a fan of the original and that working with David was “cool. I walked on set and he comes on. I’m like, ‘Wow. It’s not a dream!’ ” Justin even pointed out that he and David share similar backgrounds: “We both started on soaps and we both left them about the same time.”

Another of the stars, Deanna Russo, said she was just as thrilled to work with Hasselhoff, 55. “I just kept having to laugh to myself and think, oh, my goodness, this is the man who was such a hero to me when I was a little girl,” she said.

Unfortunately for fans of the show, the ongoing writers’ strike means the future is uncertain about turning Knight Rider into a full series again after the TV movie airs. Justin said, “I’m all for it. I hope it gets picked up. My character is a very reluctant hero. It’s got all the elements of a great show, all about thrills and having fun.”
