David Spade: Girls Date Me Because I'm Normal

David Spade has romanced some of Hollywood's most beautiful ladies, including Lara Flynn Boyle, Teri Hatcher, Carmen Electra and Heather Locklear. On Labor Day, he's expecting his first child with ex-girlfriend, March 2005 Playmate of the Month Jillian Grace. So what is the secret to his Rules of Engagement?

Normalcy.

"Everyone is so weird in L.A. that if you’re somewhat normal, it’s exotic," he tells OK!. "That has been the only reason some girls have dated me."

However, normalcy only flies in the surreal stratosphere of Hollywood. Away from the glitz and glam, David doesn't think he'd be such a ladies' man.

"That goes a long way in a crazy town like L.A. If I moved to the Midwest, it wouldn’t work," he says. "If you live in a place where everyone’s cuckoo, that stuff somehow pays off."

While he has dated a bevy of leading women, David has yet to tie the knot. He isn't against it, though, but rather just waiting for marriage to "catch me off guard."

"I don’t want to do it unless I can get it right," he says. I take it seriously. Everyone has about a two-year run at marriage, and I think that’s the max. If you asked me, 'Could you be married for two years?' I’d say, 'Yeah, probably.' That’s how most people in L.A. go into marriage. I don’t think anyone mentions to them that marriage is supposed to be your life, like, for 50 years."
