Looks like the pressure of being one of American Idol's favorite finalists might be getting to David Cook, as the swirly haired contestant was hospitalized following his performance on Tuesday night's airing of the hit Fox show.
According to a report on TMZ, the Missouri native was checked by on-set medics after singing his version of the Dolly Parton song "Little Sparrow," and was determined to have a blood-pressure level high enough to merit being looked into further. David was then driven to a nearby hospital, where he was treated.
Ironically, David is one of only a small number of AI finalists who shouldn't be feeling the pressure after Tuesday's Parton-mentored night of songs. As happens with many artist-themed Idol shows, this week's episode was a mixed bag that had the judges shrugging for the most part (except for Paula Abdul, who never has anything but positive words).
Last week's survivors from the bottom three, Jason Castro and Syesha Mercado, may have something to worry about if America agrees with judge Simon Cowell, who appeared openly disgusted with Jason's version of Dolly's Oscar-nominated tune "Travlin' Thru," and who told Syesha that she'd made a grave mistake by attempting to take on "I Will Always Love You."
In addition to David Cook, the night's other surefire success in the judge's eyes was always-cheerful teeny-popper David Archuleta, who won universal acclaim from the judges for his performance of "Smoky Mountain Memories."
