Fox rolled out the first part of its eagerly anticipated series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles -- the TV remake of the Terminator films -- last night, and will continue its run (pun intended!) this evening. Thomas Dekker, the actor who plays the Eddie Furlong teenage boy role from T2, may have made all that running look easy, but let me tell you, that boy took a beating to shoot the role!

My L.A. counterpart, Carole Glines, caught up with Thomas at a fan event at Golden Apple Comics in West Hollywood, where he revealed that shooting the show has been, “an intense experience!... The pilot was the worst. I got a gash all the way from my knee up to my thigh, which I have a scar from still. It was a scene where I was diving over a table. They just had to put a bandage on it and keep rolling.”

Were there other injuries? “I got shot in the back with a piece of shrapnel they had to pull out and my whole face got scraped on the ground the first day of shooting. We had to cover it up; I think they had to do some sort of computer CG thing to erase some of the cuts on my face.”

Damn! Well, the pain must be worth the gain for Thomas, 20, who is previously best known for playing Zach on TV’s Heroes.  He expects the show, on which he portrays the possible savior of mankind, to do well with fans of the original 1984 Terminator movie and its two sequels. Thomas said his character John, his mother Sarah (played by Lena Headey) and their robot ally (played by Summer Glau) are "trying to save the human race but in the process of doing that, they’re criminals, they’re murderers, they’re robbers.  The dynamics between these three is very interesting.”
