DWTS Watch: Mya & Melissa Near Perfection in Week 4

Not surprisingly, Mya once again ruled on Monday’s Dancing with the Stars’ performance show. But this time, she was joined atop the leader-board by surprising Melissa Joan Hart! Both stars scored a 28 out of 30, with Mya turning in a sultry lambada and the former Sabrina, the Teenage Witch actress flying through an energetic Charleston.

The fourth week of the hit ABC reality show was also its sexiest, as the lambada inspired longtime pro Derek Hough to shed his shirt for the first time ever on DWTS!

In fact, football player Michael Irvin laughed about the tone of Monday night’s DWTS, “a whole lot of sex is what it was! Wow! Somebody needs to clean the floor! Let’s all go have a cigarette.”

But Melissa was fun rather than sexy with partner Mark Ballas this week and it worked for them. Melissa told OK! backstage about her magical night, “Halfway through the dance, I went out of body. I was just kind of going with it.” She said the Charleston has been her best dance because “there’s that sense of comedy. It’s a little sharper as opposed to having to be graceful and stuff, so I think it suited me a little more.” Mark said, “She came a long way this week. Hopefully we can keep it coming.”

Meanwhile, Mya was typically low key after she turned in another sparkling performance with pro Dimitry Chaplin, telling OK!, “It was great. I enjoyed myself.”

Model Joanna Krupa and her pro Derek found themselves the center of attention backstage after he took his shirt off for their lambada performance. Their smokin’ hot moves got a 26 from the judges, with Carrie Ann Inaba laughing about the TV audience, “I hope the children were in bed.” Derek — who will be our featured Man Candy in the next issue of OK! — explained, “in dress rehearsal, I had my shirt on and I was thinking to myself, what are we going to do to stand out a little bit?”

And when Aaron Carter and Karina Smirnoff received a low score and criticism from the judges that they weren’t raunchy enough, Derek decided to just take it off. “I’ve never done this on five seasons of the show. I thought, if there’s anytime to do it, the lambada is the time to do it. I nearly didn’t do it—I just went out there and was feeling the crowd.” Joanna said, “He was so nervous! But it shows he has confidence.”

Meanwhile, Joanna, a longtime supporter of PETA, was gratified that the DWTS producers decided against their plan to have a chimpanzee judge on the show as a funny stunt. Joanna said show bigwig Conrad Green, under pressure from animal lovers, “pulled the plug on the chimp when he found out how badly they’re treated. I was so proud of him.”

Once they were front runners, but Aaron and Karina were lambasted for their lambada, getting only an 18. Judge Carrie Ann Inaba said their dance was a “turn off” and “hard to watch” instead of sexy and told Aaron “you’re trying too hard.” When asked if the judging hurt their feelings, Karina said sarcastically after the show that “we’re more concerned about hurting Carrie Ann’s feelings, because apparently it’s very hard for her to watch — so I hope she’ll be okay.”

Another athlete, snowboarder Louie Vito, also dealt with a 16 score when his country two-step failed to impress the judges. Partner Chelsie Hightower said their filmed visit to Texas to visit her partner from last season, Ty Murray, may have backfired, as it meant less rehearsal time. “I hate to make excuses at all, but it definitely did set us back, for sure,” Chelsie said. Louie sighed of the judging, “It’s a bummer. The two-step sounds easy but it’s a lot harder than that!”
