Edward Norton was ahead of the celebrity pack running the New York City marathon on Sunday, finishing the grueling 26.2 mile race in three hours, 48 minutes and one second.

The 40-year-old actor ran the course for Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust, raising $300,000 for the Kenya-based charity. He called his experience "phenomenal".

"You know you are going to hit tough spots," he said in a post-marathon interview, "in a weird way mine came early in the race, but then I got my second wind around mile 18 and felt great the rest of the way."

The male marathon winner, Meb Keflezighi, ran the Big Apple-route in a lightning two hours, nine minutes and 15 seconds.

Other celeb-marathoners included ER's Anthony Edwards, who crossed the finish line shortly after Ed (despite the video that made fans doubt he could do it). Alanis Morissette powered through in under four-and-a-half hours.

Meanwhile, The Biggest Loser runner-up Tara Costa demonstrated the determination that made her a fan-favorite on the NBC show by completing the five-boro trek in four hours and 23 minutes.
