When Britney Spears showed up at the Van Nuys County Jail at 9:25 p.m. on Monday night, many wondered why she chose such an odd time to surrender herself. But in an interview with CelebTV.com, Brit's lawyer Michael Flanagan tries to explain it all.

Even though she was supposed to have turned herself in to police by 4 p.m. PST Monday, Flanagan explains, "I went into the station earlier yesterday, met with the watch commander and asked him to deviate from that time period in order to avoid a media circus.”

Another reason for the later hour? Brit's ongoing (and frequently cancelled) auditions for dancers for her upcoming tour. Of course, Britney was yet again a no-show at yesterday's audition.

So what's next, "The judge ordered today in court that Britney must go to any L.A. police station for fingerprints and mug shots before Oct. 25," Flanagan tells CelebTV.com. "She will do that, but I don't know when."
