MySpace (and Facebook) are making the world so much smaller. In a society where we communicate online so much that former phone lovers like me now have phone anxiety, these networking sites are an easy way of getting and keeping in touch with people without actually having to speak to them or ponder, ‘What am I going to say if they answer.’ It’s also a way to reconnect with old friends and flames in a way that never existed before.

Full of nerves because I hadn’t seen him in over a decade and my family sometimes gets joy out of playfully embarrassing me, I chose his restaurant, Bistro 44 in Northport, Long Island, to have my going away dinner with my family.

On so many levels, the experience was more than I could have hoped for. My family agreed to the restaurant because it was ‘my night’ but they couldn’t have been more pleased. From the warm, cozy atmosphere to the creative cocktails, huge steaks and even fried candy bar for dessert (odd, but uniquely good), the place was perfect.

I believe there’s people in your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime and I think he’s one of those people that’s all of these things for me so it makes me so happy to see him so encompass the picture of the American dream with a charming restaurant, beautiful wife and one of the most adorable daughters I’ve ever seen.

If you’re ever in Long Island…
