Before Jennifer Aniston had to deal with a potential face-to-face meeting with Angelina Jolie at The Night Before charity bash at the Beverly Hills Hotel, the actress got things started for the night by throwing her own pre-Oscar party on Saturday.

There had been much anticipation that Jen and boyfriend John Mayer would have their first public encounter with her ex-husband Brad Pitt and his lady love Angelina at the annual event, a fundraiser for the Motion Picture & Television Fund.

Perhaps to calm her nerves, Jen decided to do her own thing tonight beforehand, hosting a lavish bash at her new $15 million Beverly Hills estate. With over 100 friends, including Mayer, in attendance, tiki torches provided the ambience for the affair. L.A.'s premiere wine shop Wally's provided the libations and Chuck's Parking handled the valet duties, as is standard for Aniston parties at her new digs.

Courteney Cox and David Arquette were part of the crowd as were Tobey Maguire and his pregnant wife Jen Meyer, who may later make an appearance at The Night Before.

Around 8pm, Jen — without John — arrived at the Night Before event, where Brangelina was a no-show.

This makes it the second year in a row where they;ve bailed out at the last minute on the Night Before event. Of course, last year's event took place only hours after Angelina had shown up at the Independent Spirit Awards in a dress that confirmed all the pregnancy rumors.
