With a cowboy for a father and rodeo hunk Ty Murray for a boyfriend , it would only make sense for folksy singer Jewel to try her hand at country music one day. Now the star is set to release her first album in that classic genre, My Country, in March and tells OK! this dream has been a long time coming.

“I've been trying to make a country record my whole career, but my label would never work well with country radio so I finally got off from them and made my record,” the singer/actress/best-selling poet reveals to OK!. “My first single comes out February or March. I think it will be a song called ‘I Do.’”

Temporarily ditching the acoustic pop music that has brought her fame and success for a multi-album deal with country label the Valory Music Company, the 33-year-old is one of the latest pop singers to go back to her country roots. As OK! has reported, Jessica Simpson is also going that route, and Jewel thinks it’s “great” mainstream and country are intermixing.

“I don't know why everybody does it, but I think it is great though,” she says. “I think it stands for the American singer, songwriter and storyteller and it is a really noble tradition.”
