The L Word gets a Spinoff

This just in: Xena star Lucy Lawless and cult favorite Elizabth Berkley (remember Showgirls?) will guest star on The L Word's final season. Sweet!

If you've been wiping your tears with the thought of The L Word closing down its last season starting Jan. 18, time to go find yourself a hankie!

The longtime Showtime series' will get a spinoff that will be about women in prison, network execs revealed. Take that, Oz!

The L Word star Leisha Hailey will be the focus of the spinoff as her character goes to prison.

Also, they announced Melissa Leo, Laurie Metcalfe (of Roseanne fame) and Famke Janssen will guest star on the spinoff's first episode.

After the sixth and final season airs of The L Word, fans can look forward to the new show, which "won't be that campy" despite its women behind bars theme, said a Showtime honcho.
