The hotly anticipated Superman reboot premieres in New York Monday night and opens wide across the U.S. this weekend.

Henry Cavill and Amy Adams, the stars of Man of Steel sat down with Interview magazine recently—opening up about how they prepared for their roles and how their characters differ from depictions in past Superman movies—and has all the details!

Hunky Henry, 30, explains he had to dig deep into his character to prepare for the role, and work on how Superman would feel and act in light of his extraordinary powers and superhuman strength.

"For example, because of [his strength], he can't just give his mom a big hug, because if he really hugs her hard, then she'll explode, so he has to find ways of conveying love without doing harm," Henry said.

"So in many ways, it's about how he learns to deal with the potential of his powers and keep them in check, but also how he winds up feeling entirely unfulfilled because of that.

Meanwhile, Amy, 38, shared that she had undergone several screen tests and auditions over the years for the part of Superman's love interest, Lois Lane, before finally landing the part under director Zack Snyder.

The actress said Snyder was very keen to make the character of Lois appear "real" and that included the color of her hair—as he believes a reporter wouldn't have time to bother dying their locks!

"So I think that he was interested in making his own stamp and not forcing some idea of who Lois was on the character and just letting her exist in this world of the film," Adams told Interview.

She went on to admit she sees a lot of herself in Lois.

"I've always really loved action films, but I don't see myself as a superhero girl, so my Lois is a mere mortal—full of imperfections. She's someone I identify with,' Amy said.

Man of Steel opens in the U.S. in wide release on Friday.
